Course Upgrades: MPEP Section Summaries Plus AIA Icons

Our Patent Bar course now includes summaries for each and every section of the MPEP to help you get through the material faster and focus. Here’s a screenshot of a couple of summaries taken right from the course:

MPEP Section Summaries Plus AIA Icons

All-in-all we’ve written well over 500 summaries.

There are several subheadings within each heading as the MPEP really drills into topics. Just so you can see the level of detail for these summaries (and the need for that many!), here’s a sample of the structure of a typical MPEP section:

  • 201    Types of Applications
  • 201.06   Divisional Application
  • 201.06(a)   Former 37 CFR 1.60 Divisional Continuation Procedure

As you can see, there are at least 3 levels within this MPEP section.  Sometimes the outline goes even further down.

The Patent Bar can cover virtually anything within the MPEP. While you can’t memorize the entire MPEP since it’s thousands of pages in length, it’s important to soak in as much in as possible. And that’s where these summaries will come in handy.

The summaries will help you gain knowledge of the material in addition to learning exactly where the topics are located within the MPEP. Since you have access to the MPEP on test day it’s crucial to know where those topics can be found for quick look-up.

In the past, we estimated that people who have prepared well with our course have time to look up 20 to 30 questions on the exam. We’d like to increase that number to a minimum of 30 questions and beyond.

That can is only possible with in-depth knowledge of the MPEP and its structure. Reviewing these summaries will help you get that knowledge. In addition, by reviewing the summaries you’ll not only learn the structure of the MPEP, but you’ll learn the most important information from each section and subsection.

As the summaries were added, we’ve also created better heading and subheading formatting. This will help you get more out of the material.

In addition to the summaries the course now includes AIA and pre-AIA icons in the relevant sections (where applicable). This way you can quickly see whether the material pertains to AIA or the older material.

Here is a quick key of the icons:

mpep-old

This symbol represents pre-AIA material.

mpep-new

This light bulb symbol represents AIA material.

Both the icons and the MPEP section summaries are valuable tools for preparing for the Patent Bar. We’re happy to offer them to those who’ve enrolled in the course.

Just login and you’ll see the summaries and the icons throughout the Guidebooks.

If you haven’t enrolled yet, you can see all this when you sign up for a Free Trial Account.
